Temper-Grip Power contacts description

Amphenol Socapex Temper-Grip contact series is designed for use in high-current and high-temperature applications and is available for most Amphenol connectors. Temper-Grip contacts can increase allowed current by up to 40  percent(High current pin - For reference only), allowing you to increase the admissible current of your system by keeping connector size reasonable . Temper-Grip contacts will far outlast the temperature extremes of the standard connectors they can go into and are perfect for any high-temperature custom connector applications. Contact Amphenol Socapex for any connector applications exceeding 200°C (392 °F).

What are Temper-Grip contacts?
Temper-Grip socket contacts is a new generation of power contacts by Amphenol Socapex for high-current and high-temperature applications, compatible with most Amphenol connectors.

Does the Temper-Grip socket contacts compatible with standard pins?
Temper-Grip socket contacts could be made with standard pins (even EN3155-065 for size 8). The heat rise and acceptable current may be lower than High-Current pins.

What is the difference between contacts size 8 and size 8 AS39029 mating end?
The size 8 pin has a front-end diameter about 3.63mm (defines in EN3155-065) and the size 8 pin AS39029 has a front-end diameter about 5.52mm. This version is also shorter.
What are the key features of Temper-Grip socket contacts?
Main features include Napkin-Ring technology for stable contact at high temperatures, hooded and non-hooded versions, several termination options, standard crimp tool compatibility, and a high-current pin option.

How much does the Temper-Grip increase current capacity?
Temper-Grip socket contacts can increase allowed current by up to 40% (compared to standard contacts in the same envelope). For reference only and mated with High-Current pins.

What is the maximum operating temperature for Temper-Grip contacts?
They are rated for continuous operation within a temperature range of -65°C to +200°C (and can be considered for higher than 200°C upon consultation with Amphenol Socapex).

What are the electrical overload capabilities?
For a Size 8 contact, the admissible electrical overload is 92A for 40s and 460A for 0.6s
For a Size 4 contact, the admissible electrical overload is 160A for 40s and 800A for 0.6s

Which industries or applications commonly use Temper-Grip socket contacts?
Main markets include Navy, Ground Vehicles, Space, and C4ISR, especially in high-current or high-temperature environments.

What connector standards are Temper-Grip socket contacts compatible with?
They are compatible with MIL-DTL-38999, EN3645, EN4165 for size 8 as they fit in a standard cavity. For size 4, they are compatible with the Amphenol Socapex D38999 Power series.
Other options are available (AS5015), please consult us.

What tooling is required for crimping Temper-Grip socket contacts?
Standard crimp tools such as M22520/23-01 (automatic) or M22520/23-02 (manual) are used, with appropriate die sets and locators as specified.

What is the mechanical endurance of Temper-Grip socket contacts?
These contacts are rated for 500 mating cycles.

What wires can be terminated to Temper-Grip socket contacts?
Temper-Grip contacts are designed to be terminated with wire based on AWG (American Wire Gauges) such as EN2267 wires. In the case of industrial wires defined by square millimeters sections, please consult us.
