The « IP » defines the resistance of the product against solids (first number) and liquids (second number).
When mated, the Powersafe is defined as IP68. The number 6 corresponds to the protection against the dust and the sand. The number 8 corresponds to the pressure watertight : the product can hold 48h under 2m water.
When unmated, we proceed to a finger test on the socket insert/contact. The socket counterpart is IP2X.

The materials and plating listed under the VG96944 standard are:

  • Aluminum with Olive Drab Cadmium plate
  • Bronze

Marine Bronze is ideal for Naval application because of its excellent resistance to saltwater corrosion and salt spray exposure (1000h).

Powersafe connectors' layouts include 3 types of contacts :

  • The protective contact : it is the longest one. The protective contact mates in first to secure the transmission of current.
  • The pilot contact : it is the smallest one. The pilot contact mates in last to activate the transmission of current.
  • Phases contacts which carry out the transmission of current.

With Powersafe, the user safety is ensured by using two special contacts :

  • Protective contact : this is the first one to mate.  This contact secures the transmission of current (first mate/last break).
  • Pilot contact : this is the last one to mate. This contact activates the transmission of current (last mate/first break).

Please remember that disconnecting under load can be dangerous.
